Congratulations new owners

Happy Holidays from Hennessey Arabians

In reflection of 2013, we are honored to have met, interacted and spent time with some truly fascinating people who share our love of the incredible Arabian horse!

May all your memories be as bright and special this Holiday Season as ours our of you!

A visit to The Home of the Innocents

During the 2013 Arabian Celebration Show, Kimberly Marie Jarvis, the Arabian Celebration Show Committee and Pat and Mary Trowbridge arranged a visit to the Home of the Innocents in Louisville, Ky with Miz Vogue VA. When the organizers of the Home of the Innocents shared that some of the children would not be able to come to the show, the ACS took the show to them. It was an opportunity for these fantastic children to meet, touch and connect with an Arabian Horse!

The excitement in these childrens’ eyes when Miz Vogue dropped her head in their arms was astonishing. We were all moved to emotion beyond explanation as she made her way around the circle of children, one by one allowing each of them to touch and kiss her. The expression in her eye was soft and kind as if she had a complete understanding for the hardships these children have faced and what it meant to them to be in her presence.

Congratulations to Linda Routledge

The horse industry is in crisis

The Horse Industry in the United States is serious business! The American Horse Council has updated the most recent statistics available on the U.S. Horse Industry’s significant economic impact and included these FACTS:

http://www.horsecouncil.org/national-economic-impact-us-horse-industry

Those of us in the horse industry in the U.S. are business owners responsible for the production, management and selection of quality animals. The economic impact nationally is enormous given the statistics highlighted above. Yet, today, the horse industry is in crisis. The overall cost of caring for horses has increased exponentially while the amount of money available to the owners has decreased. By some estimates, there are upwards of 300,000 abandoned horses in this country. Shelters and rescue facilities are overwhelmed and counties and local authorities are struggling to find solutions. What has created this problem?

No “unwanted horse crisis” existed prior to 2005 – the year the updated statistics noted earlier was compiled. The year 2005 saw the implementation of the “back-door” processing ban that occurred when funding for USDA Inspectors was stealthily removed from the Agriculture (USDA) budget in November 2005. Congress effectively restored funding for equine processing in November 2012, when efforts to continue the ban were defeated. However, subsequent pending bills and re-interpretation of existing budget provisions continue to exacerbate the crisis.

The issue of feral horses and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) policies and practices is a primary case in point. In general, the Agency has been forced to rein in its annual roundups because of the soaring costs of housing the animals – $44 million last year or 58% of its $77 million budget for the entire wild horse and burro program. With 47,000 animals now in holding facilities and demand for adoptions waning, the BLM plans to gather about 7500 horses and burros in each of the next three years, compared to about 10,000 in each of the past two years. The BLM has transported thousands of feral horses to contracted pasture sites in Oklahoma to live out their lives (potentially 20 to 30 years) at the expense of the U.S. taxpayer. Indian tribes are seeking relief and looking into opening processing plants on tribal lands. In a letter to the President and Secretary of Agriculture, the Yakama Nation Chairman Harry Smiskin wrote that no group was more affected by the devastation caused by feral horses on their lands and urged federal officials to reconsider existing policy restrictions.

We urge you to support this bill.

It is vital that this bill be defeated.

This bill has been referred to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

It is vital that this bill be defeated.

In the overview above, I have sought to provide relevant information on behalf of the horse industry. I would like to now refer you to the following appendices:

2012 Scottsdale style and success

Frank Hennessey was able to mark an item off his bucket list when he showed his beautiful mare Miz Vogue VA in the AOTD Country Pleasure Driving class in Scottsdale last week.

As he was “pulling in the winners circle” for the Reserve Champion title, his team breathed a sigh of relief for his safety and were overwhelmed with pride for his accomplishment. Franks hard work and dedication along with Mary’s exceptinal training skills made for a beautiful performance.

Miz Vogue was later named Reserve Champion in the Open Country Pleasure Driving with her trainer, Mary Trowbridge.

Miz Vogue was bred by Victoria Arabians, Cliff and Michele McCurty of Florida and is very proudly owned by Frank Hennessey.

Hennessey Arabians supports the Arabian National Breeder Finals

The rewards of breeding just got bigger!

In honor of the shows title, Arabian BREEDERS Finals, Hennessey Arabians is proudly sponsoring a HIGH POINT BREEDER AWARD to the breeder who has the highest points of the show.

In addition to the high point breeder, the breeder of each Champion will be honored for their accomplishment. It is the first award of its kind presented in a breeding class. We at Hennessey Arabians believe in the importance of breeders large and small and understand that without them, the community we have made our home would not be the same.

Best of luck to all competitors of the upcoming Arabian Breeders Finals in Scottsdale!

Frank Hennessey is the driving force behind community philanthropy programs

The young philanthropists
Brad Rogers ~ Ocala Star-Banner / March 11, 2012

Charity isn’t just about doing good, it’s also about feeling good. I mean, admit it, for all the humility we are supposed t o show when we do a charitable act, the reality is it makes us feel darn good to help our fellow man.

Just ask Luis Ortiz, an Ocala philanthropist who recently helped raise money for H.U.G.S., a charity benefitting cancer patients and their families.

“With this, you see how much you can help the community be better, and not just within yourself,” he told me this week.

Luis is new to the philanthropy game. Luis is an eight-grader at Blessed Trinity School.

Luis and his social studies classmates just completed a six-week pilot instructional program on philanthropy called Youth Philanthropy in Action, YPIA (pronounc

ed yippee-I-A). The project was sponsored by the 60-member Non-Profit Business Council of the Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce, with support of the newly formed Community Foundation of Ocala/Marion County.

When the course was completed, and the 15 different groups within Bonnie Vorwerk’s three social studies classes had made pitches for their chosen charities using “Trinity bucks,” four were chosen as winners: H.U.G.S. (by two groups); and RED, a United Nations Foundation program aimed at the fight against AIDS.

“At the end of the day it’s about philanthropy and spurring our youth to do more for our community,” said Allison Campell, of ARC Marion, and a member of the Non-Profit Business Council’s intent is clear: to find a new generation of community donors for their many worthwhile causes, and also show young people the rewards that come with helping others with making their community a better place.

Over the course of the six-week program, Vorwerk’s students studied various charities, developed mission statements, put together plans of how to allocate their $500 in Trinity bucks. At the end of the program, the four winners were selected by a vote of the students … except there was a pleasant hitch. Instead of just having pretend money, the Community Foundation provided the winning teams with real money. The result was H.U.G.S. received $750 from the Blessed Trinity philanthropists, $500 went to RED, and $250 was presented to Wounded Warriors in Action.

Not only did YPIA result in some nice contributions for some wonderful causes, but the students genuinely learned about philanthropy an the good it does.”

It is clear f rom the winning projects that the kids care about the health and well-being of others, and more than three-fourths of the students said it helped them learn “what I care about.”

“The thing is very simple,” said Frank Hennessey, a industrialist/financier/horse farm owner who is the driving force behind the Community Foundation. “Awareness. Awareness of the need and awareness of their ability to something about it.”

Yes, it’s simple. But oh so important.

And, on top of that, it sure does feel good.

H Mobility H ~ The Unanimous Champion at Scottsdale!

H Mobility H
2012 Scottdale Unanimous Champion English Pleasure with Joel Kiesner!

Writen by Jaime Stachler

It was with great anticipation that Frank Hennessey awaited his stallion, H Mobility H, to enter the arena on Friday evening. The Equidome was rather crowded as it generally is during the Scottsdale Show, accommodating exhibitors and the large masses of general public spectators in daily attendance. Mobility was to enter the ring in his championship debut in the Open English division, finally graduating from a Junior Horse, where he had previously adorned National Top Ten honors, along with a 2009 U.S. Reserve National Championship in the English Pleasure Futurity. After unanimously winning the English Pleasure Stallion class the Wednesday before, both Frank and Joel Kiesner, Mobility’s trainer, had high expectations that Mobility would perform well against the other class winners, rising to the top in the Championship that night. When the time came, those expectations were met. Mobility entered the ring in his general commanding fashion and stood out for the remainder of the class. When the champion honors were named, H Mobility H and Joel Kiesner wore the number….1094, and the roses that came with a unanimous championship ride.

“I couldn’t have been more thrilled,” says Frank Hennessey, “to begin Mobility’s open competition year with such a huge win, is outstanding!”

In addition to the thrill of beginning the show year a Scottsdale Championship bang, Frank also awaits a handful of anticipated H Mobility H foals to be born to the Hennessey program in the Spring. Included in this crop will be foals out of Gai Fiera Prima (by Gai Fiera Bey), Ellusion of Magic (by Magic Dream CAHR) and the much anticipated foal out of U.S. National Champion Country Pleasure Jr. Horse, Casting Crowns (by Apollopalooza).

“We have great pride in the accomplishments H Mobility H has made in the show ring, “ says Frank Hennessey, “but we truly are excited about his potential as a sire.”

Hennessey Arabians will await the H Mobility H foal crop while continuing his stallion promotion and 2012 show preparation for the U.S. Nationals. Watch for H Mobility H foals on our news page, and watch for his stellar open English Pleasure performances during the regional show season as he prepares to ride for the roses in October.

Kiss the Horse for Literacy Event

On a bright, sunny day in December, weather a beautiful 72 degrees, more than four hundred local horse-lovers gathered at Hennessey Arabians to see someone “kiss the horse” and to support literacy in Marion County, Florida. The third annual Kiss the Horse for Literacy event, put on by Hennessey Arabians, LLC and the Marion County Literacy Council, raised more than $35,000.

Visitors to the Hennessey horse ranch were greeted by donkeys near the ticket booths. The horses in the pastures surrounding the event grounds were also interested in inspecting the people, kids and adults alike, who came to meet them.

Riyan praises the event, speaking of the amount of time and energy volunteers put in to help others learn to read and write English. Frank Hennessey especially, she says, has proven passionate about bettering his own and the Arabian Horse communities:

“From an Arabian horse lover’s perspective, at a time when our community is struggling and breeding fewer Arabian horses than ever before, this event was a huge step towards showing people the beauty, history and gentle charisma of Arabian horses. To see young children spending the afternoon in awe of the horses, wanting nothing more than to touch and be close to them reminded me of my young years. My love, exposure and passion to be near the horses inspired me as a young girl and drove my life in a direction I can’t imagine not having lived. Without events like these, how will the children ever know what we know of these incredible animals? Where will our judges, our breeders and our trainers come from if not from the efforts of men like Frank Hennessey?”

Hennessey has earned record amounts of money for the literacy program, donating his farm, his horses and his time to give every adult in Marion County a chance to learn how to read.

The Kiss a Horse for Literacy event gets its name from a competition to see which of twelve candidates can raise the most money. Attendees of the event were asked to spend a minimum of $10 to vote on who they wished to see kiss National Champion Tulle El Jamal. Candidates included Thiroshan Chetty of Golden Ocala, David DeSantis of Greiner’s Clothing, Kelli Hart of Lilli’s Flowers & Gifts, Mary Ellen Poe of Hospice of Marion County, Howard Epstein of USA Scientific, Cindy Schad of ALTRUSA, Julie Sieg of the Marion County Library, Larry Whitler of WOCA Radio, Kelly Wright of WTRS Radio, and Jimena Carrasco AMWAY. Larry “the Giant” Whitler earned the most money for the foundation and had the unique privilege of kissing the amorous Tulle El Jamal. Unfortunately (or perhaps luckily), this was no Frog Princess. Both parties left the encounter in the same shape they approached it with.

A charitable highlight of the event was 13-year-old Sarah D. who was there representing the nonprofit she founded, Just1Book. Sarah began the organization as a way to get her school interested in donating books to a struggling neighboring community. Soon she was joined by charities and people all over the world who wanted to help. Just1Book has donated thousands of books to programs like Headstart and the Neighborhood Center for Families.

The Kiss a Horse for Literacy event brought out the best intentions of people from many different communities. Reading has been the great escape of this writer’s life and I am awed by the outpouring of support for those who have not yet had the chance to experience the incredible world of books – at least in English. It is an incredible and worthwhile goal to bring everything from Charles Dickens to Doctor Seuss, Dick Francis to Nora Roberts to the lives of anyone who wants them.

Much thanks to Frank Hennessey, the Marion County Literacy Council, JL Hardesty, Just1Book and the hundreds of others who are meeting this goal every day.

Hennessey Helps

Hennessey Arabians Lends a helping hand to the Arabian Horseman’s Distress Fund

Hennesey Arabians has donated $20,000 to the Arabian Horsemen’s Distress Fund, a 501c3 dedicated to helping members of the Arabian horse community during times of unexpected crisis, to start an endowment foundation. As well as monies donated, Hennesey has pledged the support of his organizational contacts to assist the fund in building a bridge to the future with this endowment.

“In the middle of our annual fund raisers at the 2011 U.S. National Championships in October, Frank Hennessey of Hennessey Arabians dropped by to see me,” says Mary Trowbridge of the Horsemen’s Distress Fund Charity. “He suggested that it was high time that the HDF considered an Endowment Fund. Then, he surprised all of us by giving the endeavor a ‘leg up’ with a check for $20,000! I never cease to be amazed and touched by the generosity of our Arabian horse family when it comes to helping those faced with hardships and tragedy.” ~ Mary Trowbridge

“I just wanted to send a note to thank you for your generous donation to start the endowment fund for the Horseman’s Distress Fund. I know you are new to Arabian horses and to put forth that kind of donation is incredible in this economic climate. Unfortunately, there has to be a fund to help with all of the natural disasters as well as issues we cause ourselves. My husband and I attended the barn tour last year during convention and enjoyed visiting your farm very much. For someone so new to the industry, you were so attentive to details and showed such pride in your farm and your horses. You are obviously “hooked” like the rest of us.

I just wanted to take the time to thank you for helping all of us. We just never know when it might be our turn of bad luck that would need a helping hand. Please enjoy the holidays with your friends and family and know that your generosity did not go unnoticed.”

National Champion Tulle El Jamaal is the honored guest!

Hennessey Arabians is 4 for 4 in Tulsa!

U.S. Nationals Review ~ by Jaime Stachler

Hennessey Arabians had another great year at the U.S. Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma: they enjoyed exciting times with friends of the industry, while adorning another 4 Nationals Top Ten honors for the Hennessey Arabian program.

The week started with a National Top Ten Yearling Filly award for H Embrace H, this filly, bred by the Hennessey operation, was the first national winner both bred and foaled at their farm in Ocala, Florida. Her honor came in beautiful division of Arabian Yearling Fillies, a class that was one of the most competitive of the show. Thank you to Ricardo Rivero for her beautiful presentation.

From that great win, Hennessey’s moved on to also win National Top Ten honors with Hunter Pleasure Futurity mare, Medea o. This three-year-old, owned in partnership with oOne, LLC and trained and ridden by Peri Tilghman, who did a masterful job in her arena of youngsters. Similarly, Miz Vougue, the Hennessey’s Country Pleasure Jr. Horse had a beautiful class in her division with Mary Trowbridge, and found herself in the winners circle with an additional top ten. She was this year’s Region 14 Champion and now has National honors to her merit. Both of these young mares will be exciting to watch as well as important to the Hennessey breeding program.

H Mobility H rounded out the week and the wins in the Purebred English Pleasure Jr. Horse Class: one of the most exciting divisions in the arena. This Top Ten honor will be added to Mobility’s Reserve National Championship earned two years ago in the English Futurity Division.

In addition to achieving their goals in the ring this year, the Hennessey’s were also touched and honored to take part and contribute to those activities that bring the Arabian community together as a whole. This year, the Arabian Horseman’s Distress Fund truly captured the attention of everyone at the show, and particularly the attention of Frank Hennessey. He attended the annual AHDF Wine Walk to witness the show community coming together to enjoy each other and raise over $12,000 dollars for this outstanding cause. After being touched by this experience, and the additional fund-raising events, Frank Hennessey himself made a generous contribution to this effort that protects and supports the Arabian community that he loves.

Not only did the Hennessey program enjoy great reward in the competition in Tulsa, but also in the overall experience of the Arabian community this year. The hard work and hope accomplished by the Horseman’s Distress Fund, brought breeders, trainers, and exhibitors closer together to support each other and the Arabian Horse ~ one of the missions of Hennessey Arabian, LLC as a whole. In the show ring, the Hennessey mission was accomplished as well – skilled breeding, dedicated training and preparation that proved an ultimate reward. A sincere thank you is extended to the trainers that dedicated themselves to the process ~ thank you Guzzo/Rivero Worldwide, Kiesner Training, Trowbridges’ Ltd. and Wilson Training Center for your continued hard work and great hospitality at the show! We are already looking forward to next year!

Jaipur El Perseus

Jaipur el Perseus has been sold to Mr. & Mrs. Nicholas and Sarah Holm, Branninge Arabian Stud, Sodertalje, Sweden.

Frozen semen is available in the United States, please contact George Z here at the farm for more breeding information.

Jaipur el Perseus is the ultra exotic colt imported by oOne LLC from Lenita Perroy’s world renowned Haras Meia Lua in Sorocaba, Brazil.

Jaipur’s sire, the charismatic black stallion, Perseus el Jamaal is the super sire and son of 3 time National Champion and living legend..Ali Jamaal.

In addition to this, Jaipur is the most look alike son of his mother…the one and only queen of Brazil, Jullye el Ludjin.

With his priceless genotype and his extravagant phenotype, Jaipur is the perfect choice to add exotic beauty and extreme type to today’s show ring.

The most successful horses being presented in International show circuit today consist primarily of bloodlines that relate to Padron Psyche, Magnum Psyche, WH Justice, Gazal al Shaqab, Marwan al Shaqab and Bey Shah. Most breeders agree that an outcross is needed for these bloodlines that can further increase type, beautiful heads, carriage and length of leg to these out standing individuals. Jaipur’s genotype and phenotype are such an outcross. To date Jaipur’s foals are all improvements on their dams in regards to their beautiful heads, shape of neck, tail carriage, length of leg and carriage – in a word, ‘type’. Jaipur is the son of the ethereal beauty, Jullye El Ludjin (dam of sire supreme Jullyen El Jamaal). Jaipurs breeder, Lenita Peroy stated, “His beauty is the heritage of all the horses in his pedigree. His sire line sequence is spectacular — Perseus, Ali Jamaal, Ruminaja Ali, Shaikh Al Badi, Morafic, Nazeer — and his dam Jullye El Judjin is known as one of the most beautiful mares of our time, and founded one of the most important mare families at Haras Meia Lua. With all these wonderful genes, we expect that Jaipur will reproduce the image of his ancestors and himself.”
